French Data Watchdog Fines Google and Shein $553.9 Million for Cookie Violations

France's data protection authority, CNIL, fined Google and Shein a total of 475 million euros ($553.9 million) for violating French regulations on cookies. Google was fined 325 million euros for displaying ads in Gmail's "Promotions" and "Social" tabs without user consent, while Shein was fined 150 million euros for placing advertising cookies on users' devices without informing them. Both companies have stated they will contest the fines.
