FPT Corp 1H revenue 32.68 trillion dong
The Ministry of Public Security in Vietnam has acquired a majority stake in FPT Telecom, one of the country's largest internet providers, marking a strategic shift in national cybersecurity efforts. This development, as reported by Yahoo Finance [1], involves the transfer of shares from the State Capital Investment Corporation to the ministry, which oversees the police. Previously, the state-run corporation held a 50.17% stake, while FPT Corp, Vietnam's largest private tech company, maintained a 45.66% stake but had control over the unit. The move is designed to enhance the ministry's capabilities in safeguarding national security and ensuring robust network and information security. Although the ministry has not clarified whether it will take effective control of FPT Telecom, the transfer aligns with its increasing involvement in the nation's internet and telecom sectors. Last year, the ministry assumed control of MobiFone, the country's third-largest telecom operator, and led initiatives to tighten data protection rules, which have raised concerns among foreign tech firms.
FPT Telecom's role extends beyond internet services, as it is actively involved in developing undersea fibre-optic cables. This is a national priority for Vietnam, given that many of its existing cables are aging and susceptible to accidents. The strategic importance of this infrastructure underscores the government's focus on securing and modernizing its telecommunications capabilities.
On the financial front, shares in FPT Corp saw a modest rise of 0.24% on the morning of the announcement, with FPT Telecom shares also experiencing a slight increase. The IndexBox platform highlights that Vietnam's telecom sector continues to grow, driven by increasing internet penetration and demand for high-speed connectivity.
FPT Corp recently reported its first-half (1H) revenue of 32.68 trillion dong, reflecting the company's continued growth and resilience in the face of regulatory changes. This revenue figure is a testament to FPT Corp's ability to navigate the evolving landscape of Vietnam's telecom sector and maintain its position as a key player in the market.
