Fortnite's New Map Update Sparks 200% Surge in Dill Bits Memecoin
Fortnite, the popular online battle royale game developed by Epic Games, has once again incorporated a cryptocurrency-themed element into its latest map update. Players have discovered a new secret location dubbed the “Dill Bits” server mine, which bears a striking resemblance to a Bitcoin mining farm. This addition has sparked interest within the gaming and cryptocurrency communities, leading to a small surge in the value of an unaffiliated memecoin named Dill Bits.
The new “Dill Bits” server mine is located on the island of Oninoshima, near Outlaw Oasis, and is described as a small cave containing servers that mine the cryptocurrency called Dill Bits. Players can collect Dill Bits by destroying the equipment within the mine, making it a unique and hard-to-obtain resource. The underground Bitcoin mine features banks of green servers adorned with the Dill Bit logo, which closely resembles Bitcoin’s branding.
This is not the first time Fortnite has incorporated cryptocurrency elements into its game. In February, Fortnite introduced Dill Bits as an in-game currency, which can be used to purchase in-game items from three Black Markets scattered across the map. The announcement of this in-game currency prompted an anonymous crypto user to create their own version of the token on the Solana blockchain. This memecoin, also named Dill Bits, experienced a significant price spike of 200% to $0.0005 on April 4, following the discovery of the new server mine location.
The recent spike in the Dill Bits memecoin is relatively modest compared to its previous surges. When the memecoin was first launched in February, it saw a staggering 4,500% increase in price, reaching a market cap of $4.8 million. Another significant spike occurred on March 9, after Fortnite released a video promoting its latest “Rugpull” storyline, which saw the token pump over 4,000% in just a few minutes.
The addition of the Dill Bits server mine is part of Fortnite’s ongoing efforts to incorporate cryptocurrency themes into its game. The online battle royale platform released its most recent update on April 1, which included a new Mortal Kombat collaboration, quests, skins, and map updates. The new update also features other hidden server mines, which have been discovered in various parts of the map since the in-game currency was introduced.
Fortnite’s in-game cryptocurrency, Dill Bits, can be spent “at one of three Black Markets around the map, offering a selection of Mythic and Legendary items,” and “Boons” that grant extra abilities. An in-game description calls Dill Bits “a bulky and confusing crypto coin you never knew you needed. These coins are ideal for shady black-market trades.”
The inclusion of cryptocurrency-themed elements in Fortnite is likely to continue, as the game’s developers seek to engage with the growing interest in digital currencies and blockchain technology. The recent addition of the Dill Bits server mine is a testament to the game’s ability to adapt to emerging trends and incorporate them into its gameplay in a fun and engaging way. The gimmick is not likely new for Fortnite players, as other hidden server mines have been discovered in other parts of the map since the in-game currency was introduced.
