AMD(AMD.US) said on Tuesday that Keith Strier has joined the company as Senior Vice President of Global AI Market.

Strier, who previously served as Nvidia's (NVDA.US) Vice President of Global AI, will be responsible for expanding AMD's global AI capabilities and accelerating strategic AI partnerships in the public and private sectors. He will report to Mark Papermaster, AMD's Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.

"He brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record as a trusted advisor to the nation and to companies, which enables him to help accelerate the adoption of AMD-driven solutions to meet the growing demand for AI," said AMD CEO Lisa Su.

Meanwhile, AMD is stepping up its investments to enhance its AI chip manufacturing capabilities and compete with industry giants Nvidia. Last month, AMD said it would acquire server maker ZT Systems for $4.9 billion in cash and stock. The company will become part of AMD's Data Center Solutions business group.

AMD said it invested more than $1 billion over the past year to expand its AI ecosystem and enhance its AI software capabilities, in addition to increasing organic R&D activities.
