Ford is recalling over 355,000 trucks in the United States due to a potential issue with the instrument panel display, which could fail to show vital information such as warning lights, vehicle speed, fuel levels, and navigation. The recall involves specific models, including the 2025
F-150 and the 2025-2026 Ford Super Duty trucks, such as the F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD.The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the instrument panel cluster (IPC) in these vehicles might fail upon startup, leading to the panel being blank. This issue arises from a computer error attempting to enter sleep mode, causing important safety-related telltales and gauges to be unreadable, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. As of June this year, Ford has received 95 warranty claims and one vehicle owner questionnaire about this defect, though no accidents or injuries have been reported.
Ford plans to rectify the situation by providing a free software update to affected customers. This update will be available both at authorized dealers and through over-the-air (OTA) updates, enhancing the convenience for vehicle owners. Notification letters detailing this correction and the process to follow will be mailed to vehicle owners starting September 2.
Production records indicate that the IPC software responsible for this issue was first implemented in June 2024 and discontinued by July 2025. This particular recall adds to a series of recalls Ford has issued this year as part of an ongoing effort to enhance product safety and reliability. The company emphasizes that these measures aim to proactively address issues while improving testing protocols to minimize future incidents.
Despite the recall, no immediate injuries or accidents have been tied directly to the instrument panel failures, indicating the effectiveness of Ford's preemptive measures. The over-the-air update presents a practical solution for customers, aligning with Ford's strategy to quickly provide remedies and ensure customer safety.
