Motor Company's stock price rose by 0.57%, marking the fourth consecutive day of gains, with a total increase of 5.54% over the past four days. The company's trading volume reached $994 million, placing it 80th in the day's trading rankings.Ford has issued a significant recall affecting over one million vehicles due to issues with the rear camera system, primarily impacting models equipped with the SYNC 4 system. This recall is one of the largest in Ford's history, with the affected models manufactured between 2021 and 2025. The issue arises from a fault in the SYNC 4 accessory interface module, causing the rear camera to freeze, lag, or fail to turn on when the vehicle starts reversing. This defect poses a real risk to road safety as it fails to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) no. 111 “Rear Visibility,” which requires rear cameras to display within 2 seconds after shifting into reverse.
Ford has announced that the recall will be addressed through a software update sent remotely, eliminating the need for owners to visit a dealership unless they prefer an in-person check. Official notices to owners will be sent between June 16 and June 20, 2025. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) alerted Ford in January 2025 after receiving 37 complaints from owners and 15 reports of frozen images, leading to the discovery of the issue. Fortunately, only one minor accident related to this defect has been reported, with no confirmed injuries.
Ford has published an extensive list of affected models, including the Ford F-150, Ford Bronco, Ford Edge, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford Expedition, Ford Transit, Ford Escape, Ford Ranger, Ford Mustang, Lincoln Nautilus, Lincoln Navigator, and Lincoln Corsair. The complete list also includes Super Duty versions of the F-150. Owners can check if their vehicle is part of the recall by visiting the NHTSA’s official website or Ford’s official page to see if their vehicle’s VIN number matches the recall list.
Ford has stated that the entire SYNC engineering team has been working to identify the cause and develop the necessary update. This recall is one of the largest in Ford's history, following recent recalls for fire risks, demonstrating the company's commitment to safety. However, it remains to be seen what the next safety issue will be for Ford.
