Ford has recalled 312,000 pickup and SUV models for a loss of electronic power brake assist, which can increase stopping distances and crash risk. The recall includes 2025 F-150, Ranger, Expedition, Bronco, and Lincoln Navigator models built between November 2023 and June 2025. Ford will issue an over-the-air software update to address the issue, but customers can also schedule a free service appointment at a dealer.

Ford Motor Company has announced a voluntary safety recall affecting 312,120 vehicles in the United States. The recall, initiated on August 1, 2025, involves certain 2025 model year F-150, Expedition, Bronco, Ranger, and Lincoln Navigator models [1]. The issue stems from a potential fault in the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module, which may result in a temporary loss of power brake assist while driving or using advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) [1].

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that under rare conditions, the EBB module may enter a faulted state triggered by voltage disturbances. This can cause the brake boost to shut down until the vehicle is powered off and restarted, potentially leading to increased stopping distances and a higher risk of crashes [1]. The majority of the affected vehicles are F-150 models, totaling 218,000 units [2].

Ford discovered the problem on May 14 when its Expedition/Navigator Rapid Response Team identified a vehicle with a loss of power brake assist and a stored diagnostic trouble code (DTC) [2]. The issue was confirmed through the connected vehicle database and further investigations involving drivers who experienced similar issues [2].

The recall includes an over-the-air software update to address the problem, but customers also have the option to schedule a free service appointment at a dealer to have it performed [2]. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on August 25 [2].

Ford has issued 96 recalls since the start of 2025, which is the highest number for any automaker in a single year, according to NHTSA data [2]. The recalls potentially extend to over 6.4 million vehicles [2].
