The recall comes after an investigation by Ford's Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) revealed an increase in reports of broken rear axle hub bolts and stripped wheel end hub splines. The issue was first brought to Ford's attention on June 5, 2025, and the company has since identified that the problem affects less than 1% of the trucks it is recalling [1].
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for repairs. The left and right rear axle shaft assemblies will be replaced with assemblies containing revised spline geometry and fasteners, at no cost to the owner [1].
Ford is not aware of any vehicle accidents or injuries related to this condition as of July 14, 2025 [1]. The recall coincides with Ford's recent investment in its production facilities and a new EV platform, which aims to compete with Chinese automakers [3].
