The Ford Mustang GTD may have set a new Nurburgring lap record with a time of 6:41.74, surpassing the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X. If confirmed, this would make the Mustang GTD the fastest American car around the track, beating the Mercedes-Benz AMG One's record time of 6:29.090. Ford CEO Jim Farley had previously challenged Team Chevy, and the company appears to have taken him seriously.
