Ford Motor Company (F.US) will invest $2.3 billion to expand production of the F-Series Super Duty pickup truck at its Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada.
The Canadian plant will add 100,000 Super Duty vehicles to the total production, supplementing the Super Duty production at Ford’s Kentucky and Michigan assembly plants, which are already running at full capacity. The two plants produced more than 200,000 trucks in the first half of this year alone.
The expansion will initially create 1,800 jobs at Oakville, 150 new jobs at the Windsor Engine Plant and 70 new jobs and overtime at the Ford Parts Plant.
“Super Duty is a critical tool for businesses and people around the world, and even with our Kentucky Truck Plant and Michigan Assembly Plant running at full capacity, we can’t keep up with demand,” said Jim Farley, CEO.
F-Series Super Duty pickups have a significant market share in the commercial industry, with 58% in mining, 56% in utilities, 53% in emergency vehicles and 44% in construction.
