FMC Cut FY EPS Outlook 29%-Is This Bargain Still a Value Trap?
FMC's 8% Drop Marked a Reset in Expectations
The market forced a reset. FMC's 8.3% share-price decline after earnings reflected the guidance cut and weaker near-term outlook. The debate now is simpler: bulls can argue that lower targets create room for upside surprises, while bears focus on whether operating performance and cash generation have more room to fall.
The outlook cut was material
FMC lowered full-year adjusted EPS to $1.19 to $1.49 from prior expectations of $1.68, a meaningful downward revision. Second-quarter results reinforced the deterioration: revenue fell 17% year over year to $867 million, adjusted EPS dropped 62% to $0.26, and adjusted EBITDA declined 26%. Full-year revenue guidance was lowered 7% at the midpoint and adjusted EBITDA guidance 23% at the midpoint.
The stock's move to $10.03 from a high of $42.77 shows how much optimism has been pared back. At this point, the valuation debate is less about undervaluation in the abstract and more about whether the business can stabilize.

The value case now depends on stability
If adjusted EBITDA and cash generation hold up, lowered expectations could work in investors' favor. If they continue to weaken, the current Reduce consensus becomes easier to understand as a caution signal rather than excessive pessimism.
