Recently, NaaS Technologies (NAAS.US) and its strategic partner, Fast Electric, completed the issuance of carbon credits for the first time in the domestic new energy vehicle charging service industry, marking an important step in the national carbon trading and personal carbon reduction field.

On December 2, 2024, the Wuhan Ecology and Environment Bureau released an announcement titled "Notice on the Release of Personal Carbon Credits (First Batch)", which announced four carbon credits for public transportation, new energy vehicle travel, and shared bicycles. Among them, NaaS Technologies and Fast Electric, as core carbon reduction scenarios for new energy vehicle travel, were among the first four platforms to be publicized. According to the "Wuhan New Energy Vehicle Travel Carbon Credit Methodology (Trial)", the carbon credit of the Fast Electric platform during the period from September 24, 2024, to October 29, 2024, was 1,962 tons, the largest among the four platforms.

Under the guidance of the double carbon goal, local governments are accelerating the promotion of public green and low-carbon actions and guiding green consumption patterns. New energy vehicle charging behavior is the most recognized and participated carbon credit promotion scenario due to its high green carbon reduction value and clear carbon reduction accounting method. However, carbon credit still faces obstacles such as insufficient incentive mechanisms and difficulty in trading carbon assets for cash. This time, the first issuance of carbon credit by the Wuhan Ecology and Environment Bureau in the country is a historic breakthrough in carbon credit trading.

In August 2021, NaaS Technologies was the first to establish a carbon account in the industry for new energy vehicle charging. New energy vehicle owners can earn carbon credits through daily charging behaviors, which can be recorded in carbon accounts and used to offset cash for charging, realizing a carbon reduction trading cycle. As of June 30, 2024, the number of users on the Fast Electric platform using carbon accounts has reached 800,000.

NaaS Technologies' Sustainable Development General Manager, Zhai Yubo, said that with the continuous growth of the total number of new energy vehicles, the potential for carbon reduction brought by charging services is huge. The first issuance of carbon reduction credits in Wuhan has a significant incentive effect on public participation in carbon credit actions. NaaS Technologies will continue to promote the implementation of carbon credit practices in various cities and promote the full green transformation of China's transportation energy.
