FBI Arrests Dark Web Hacker IntelBroker Causing $25 Million in Damages

The FBI has successfully apprehended a notorious dark web hacker known by the alias "IntelBroker." The individual, identified as Kai West, a British national, was indicted for allegedly selling stolen data on the cybercrime forum BreachForums, resulting in damages exceeding $25 million. West, who operated under the pseudonym "IntelBroker," was arrested in France in February and is currently awaiting extradition to the United States.

The indictment, unsealed by the US Southern District of New York Attorney’s Office, details West's involvement in a series of cybercrimes. He is accused of conspiring with the online cybercrime group CyberN***ers to steal data from multiple companies, including a telecommunications firm, a municipal healthcare provider, an internet service provider, and over 40 other corporations. The stolen data was then offered for sale on BreachForums, with prices reaching over $2 million.

The FBI's operation involved an undercover agent who purchased data from West for $250 worth of Bitcoin. This transaction led to the delivery of three admin-level usernames and passwords, which were part of the illicitly acquired data. West's activities on BreachForums were extensive, with 158 threads allegedly started by him offering stolen data for sale or for free. These threads included data from companies based in the United States, with at least 41 of them specifically targeting US-based corporations.

West's notoriety on BreachForums grew to the point where he was identified as the site’s owner starting in August 2024. His profile image and activities on the forum were meticulously documented by law enforcement, providing crucial evidence for the indictment. The FBI's Assistant Director in Charge, Christopher Raia, described West as a "serial hacker" who was able to sell the stolen data for millions in illicit funds.
