Apple's F1 movie is set for a rare IMAX re-release on August 8, following its successful theatrical run. The film has earned over $500 million globally and has been a major success for Apple. The IMAX re-release will offer fans one more chance to see the film on the big screen it was made for.

The IMAX re-release comes as Imax Corp. reported its highest North American quarterly box office revenue ever of $143 million in the second quarter, ended June 30 [1]. The ultra high-definition exhibitor attributed the revenue growth to a record number of “Filmed for Imax” theatrical releases, including Apple Films’ F1 The Movie [1]. The movie has generated more than $466 million at the global box office, including $157 million across North American screens [1].

F1 The Movie is easily Apple’s biggest theatrical success to date, and now it seems the film will seek to extend its run even longer with an IMAX re-release [2]. The announcement was made as part of IMAX’s quarterly earnings call, where the company attributed its successful quarter to profitable outings from F1, Sinners, and the latest Mission Impossible film [2].

The IMAX re-release will offer fans one more chance to catch the film on the big screen it was made for. The film has been performing well in many theaters across the world and is currently well on its way toward hitting $500 million at the global box office [2].

Imax Corp. plans to re-release Apple Films’ F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt, on Aug. 8 [1]. The movie has added $9.8 million in ticket sales over the July 20 weekend, contributing to a growth of 19% in global box office market share to 3.6% [1]. Rich Gelfond, CEO of Imax, said the results were driven in part by the opening of 57 Imax locations worldwide, with system sales pacing “well ahead” of 2024 through the first six months of the year [1].
