Expro (NYSE: XPRO) has secured a three-year contract with Woodside Petróleo Operações de México, S. de R.L. de C.V. (Woodside Energy) to provide tubular running and cementing services for the Trion deepwater oil and gas development offshore Mexico. This contract marks a significant milestone in Mexico's energy evolution, as it will be the country's first deepwater oil production facility [1].
Under the agreement, Expro will offer industry-leading tubular running services (TRS) and cementing services for the Trion project. The project, located in the Perdido Fold Belt approximately 180 km off Mexico’s coastline in the Gulf of Mexico, has water depths of around 2,500 meters [2]. Woodside Energy will manage operations from its Tampico shore base and office, while Expro is establishing a new hub in the area to support local employment and contribute to economic growth [3].
The contract enables Expro to deploy its differentiated well construction technologies, designed to offer a seamless solution from top drive to target depth. Services will include TRS casing, completion, drilling support, and the provision of casing accessories, cement heads, and Expro’s Skyhook® system [1]. Expro's approach is aimed at optimizing well performance, driving cost-efficiencies, and enhancing operational reliability throughout the project lifecycle [2].
The Trion project is a joint venture between Woodside Energy and Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), with first oil targeted for 2028. Expro's involvement in this project represents an opportunity to showcase its innovative technologies on a historic deepwater development and build a strong, long-term partnership with Woodside in Mexico [3].
