Bloomberg Technology's Longevity Episode 1: Obesity focuses on the impact of obesity on longevity. The episode covers Microsoft's response to a SharePoint breach attributed to Chinese hackers and the geopolitics behind the AI race. Other topics include Netflix's use of Runway AI for video generation and a crypto-incentive approach for training data. The David Rubenstein Show features an interview with Rep. Jason Smith.

U.S. and Chinese officials are set to meet in Stockholm next week to discuss an extension to the deadline for negotiating a trade deal, according to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent [1]. The talks, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, aim to rebalance the U.S.-China trade relationship and address issues such as reducing China's over-reliance on manufacturing and exports.

The Trump administration and the Chinese government previously reached a 90-day trade deal in May, which lowered the tariff rate on most Chinese imports into the U.S. from a combined 145% down to 30% [1]. Bessent suggested that the tariff rate on Chinese goods could remain at 30% but emphasized that the administration still has more demands for Beijing, such as ending its practice of buying sanctioned Russian oil.

Meanwhile, the ongoing geopolitical tensions and the recent SharePoint breach involving Chinese hackers have added complexity to the negotiations. However, a business group remains optimistic about the potential for a mutually beneficial agreement.

In the realm of technology, Netflix is reportedly testing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in content production. The streaming giant is using Runway AI's video tools, though it is unclear in what capacity these tools are being utilized. This development comes days after Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos admitted that AI-generated videos were used in the show "The Eternaut," highlighting the technology's potential to speed up production and reduce costs [2].

Walt Disney is also reportedly exploring Runway's AI tools for its production house, although it does not plan to integrate the technology into its content production workflow. The use of AI in Hollywood is a contentious issue, with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) urging major studios and Netflix to take legal action against companies that use members' works to train AI systems [2].
