Tesla has launched an automated driver assist feature called ‘actually smart summon’ (ASS) with the 2024.27.20 software update, allowing vehicles to navigate parking lots autonomously. This feature is pivotal for advancing self-driving capabilities. Tesla responded to Australian regulators about potentially making self-driving vehicles with seats that rotate to face backward, which could impact future vehicle designs like the Tesla Semi or the upcoming Robotaxi. Tesla's Sentry Mode, which uses vehicle cameras to record surroundings, is helping police solve crimes by capturing evidence around parked vehicles. Police in Oakland and beyond are increasingly towing Teslas to access footage when owners are unavailable. Tesla, along with other automakers like Kia, BMW, and Stellantis, plans to build EVs in Mexico, a hot spot for EV investments and expected export hub. Domestic EV sales in Mexico are also projected to rise significantly.

BYD is delaying the announcement of its new North American EV plant until after the US elections. Meanwhile, BYD continues to grow, hitting record sales with over 1 million EVs sold in 2024. The company is focusing on international growth and plans to open new facilities in various countries, including Thailand, Pakistan, and Brazil. BYD is also exploring the North American market despite a new 100% tariff on EV imports in Canada.

Xpeng AeroHT is progressing on its Land Aircraft Carrier, a modular flying car, with public crewed test flights planned for this fall. Mass production has been pushed to 2026, with the vehicle expected to cost up to $280,000.

Rivian has released a significant software update (2024.31) for its R1T and R1S models, introducing features like ‘Launch Mode’ and improving various functionalities, including traffic data accuracy, climate control, and battery performance. Geely unveiled the new low-cost Geome Xingyuan EV, designed for city travel, with a starting price around $11,200. It offers up to 255 miles of range and various ice cream-inspired color options in partnership with Haagen-Dazs. Volkswagen’s Scout Motors will reveal its first electric adventure vehicle on October 24. The new Scout SUV and truck concepts aim to be rugged, capable, and versatile, targeting the same niche as Rivian. Navalt continues to innovate in the marine mobility sector with solar electric boats in India. Their flagship solar-electric boat "Aditya" and other models like "Indra" and "Barracuda" are setting new standards in efficiency and range. Volvo has launched a new version of its FH Electric semi truck with a range of up to 600 km, doubling the range of its current model. The new truck will be available for sale in the second half of 2025.
