European Central Bank Warns of Global Risks from US Stablecoin Growth

ECB official Olaf Sleijpen warns that a run on US stablecoins could pose global risks due to their rapid growth, crossing $300 billion in 2025. He says that if these tokens are not stable, it could lead to a situation where the underlying assets need to be sold quickly. The ECB is working on blockchain-based euro settlements and plans to introduce them by early 2026.
