Europe's AI Revolution: 3 Million Processors to Power 76 Mega Factories
The plans for Europe's massive AI factories are advancing rapidly, with the latest proposal calling for the deployment of "at least" 3 million state-of-the-art AI graphics processors. Henna Virkkunen, a member of the European Commission responsible for technology sovereignty, security, and democracy, stated at a press conference, "They have now collectively announced plans to acquire a total of at least 3 million of the latest-generation AI processors." Virkkunen further noted that 76 companies have put forward plans to establish large AI factories across 60 different locations in 16 member states, with proposals coming from both European and non-European firms.
Under the leadership of Jensen Huang, NvidiaNVDA-- (NVDA.US) stands out as the leading manufacturer of AI accelerators, with various research bodies estimating its market share to be between 70% and 95%. Conversely, AMDAMD-- (AMD.US), led by CEO Lisa Su, commands a significantly smaller portion of the AI accelerator market. In March, the European Commission announced a fund allocation of $23 billion for the establishment of four AI "superfactories" across the EU. The Commission plans to announce the specific locations of these factories by the end of the year.
