The EU will review Apple's (AAPL.US) iPadOS to assess whether it complies with regulatory rules.
Zhitong Finance learned that the European Commission said on Monday that its antitrust regulator would assess whether Apple's (AAPL.US) operating system for iPad complies with landmark rules aimed at curbing the power of tech giants. Apple released a compliance report on its iPad operating system earlier this month. In April, the European Commission designated the iPad operating system as a key channel for businesses to reach customers.
The European Commission's antitrust regulator said in a statement: "The Commission will now carefully assess whether the measures taken for the iPad operating system effectively comply with the obligations of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The European Commission's assessment will also be based on the views of interested stakeholders."
The DMA, which came into effect earlier this year, requires Apple to allow users to set their own default web browser on the iPad, to allow other app stores on its operating system, and to allow other headphones and smart pens to use the iPad operating system's features. Companies that violate the DMA could face fines of up to 10% of their global annual turnover.
