A major Ethereum whale acquired $300 million in ETH via Galaxy Digital's OTC desk, resulting in a $26 million unrealized loss. This activity, tracked by Arkham Intelligence, signifies strong long-term conviction amid price fluctuations. The whale transaction executed by Galaxy Digital's OTC desk highlights substantial market activity. Over $300 million in ETH was acquired across a three-day period, capturing significant market attention and discussions. Arkham Intelligence tracks the wallet's ongoing performance.
, a key facilitator, is led by Mike Novogratz, recognized in crypto finance. Despite a floating $26 million loss due to market fluctuations, long-term strategies seem unchanged. A separate entity, SharpLink, also made notable ETH acquisitions during this period. Immediate market reactions include reduced ETH sell pressure as many investors move assets off exchanges. Exchange reserves are at multi-year lows, suggesting possible long-term holding strategies. The purchase emphasizes the institutional confidence in Ethereum's stability, amid macroeconomic challenges. Historical data suggests that such large-scale acquisitions often foretell market recoveries, as opposed to prolonged downturns. Future implications could involve increased regulatory focus on large transactions and continued technological advancements in the Ethereum network. Past patterns show institutional activity like this affecting market sentiment positively, offering potential growth opportunities. "Institutional buys during a market dip are often a precursor to recovery; this whale activity might signal a robust bullish divergence for ETH," said Raoul Pal, CEO, Real Vision.Ethereum (ETH) has made a massive upward correction this month after failing to hold above the $3,000 price mark for most of the first quarter of 2025. Leading the altcoin rally with significant gains attained over the last two weeks, market participants are displaying more confidence in the altcoin than ever before. In a post shared to X, a pseudonymous analyst and engineer with the X handle IamCryptoWolf has shared his bullish outlook for the second most valued crypto asset by market cap. In an updated post from his previous price prediction for the altcoin, the analyst marked $8,000 as a conservative price target for ETH, and $13,000+ as a more optimistic attainable price point for the altcoin. For the analysts’ outlook to come to fruition, ETH bulls must attain gains of 22.53% and 261.61% to trade at $8,000 and $13,000, respectively. Sharing more insight on the road ahead, the analyst revealed that a bear storm is expected to push prices to lower lows after the asset hits a new all-time high. However, the bear trend is expected to subside just before the asset kicks off a bullish recovery, which is expected to take off during the last quarter of the year. “In both scenarios, expect a sharp 20–25% washout after ATHs, the final shakeout before liftoff. Q4 is when it ignites. This is the roadmap.” He wrote.
Ethereum (ETH) is making headlines with a significant $274 million over-the-counter (OTC) purchase by whales through Galaxy Digital. This move underscores a growing institutional confidence in ETH’s long-term value, despite a net supply reduction of 185,000 ETH over the past seven days. The supply dynamics reveal a complex picture: 163.1K ETH moved to strategic reserves, 39.2K ETH flowed into ETF custody, and 1.3K ETH was burned via base fees, offsetting a modest issuance of 18.6K ETH. This deflationary trend aligns with Ethereum’s post-2022 Merge economics, where the shift to Proof of Stake (PoS) and the EIP-1559 upgrade reduced annual issuance to 0.5% and introduced a burning mechanism, resulting in a net supply decrease of 0.1% since the upgrade. The OTC purchase highlights a strategic focus on scarcity rather than short-term price speculation, a narrative gaining traction among institutional players. Firms like
, holding over $2 billion in ETH as a strategic reserve, exemplify this trend. The whales’ actions suggest they are front-running a potential supply crunch, betting on Ethereum’s evolution into a digital infrastructure asset rather than a mere speculative commodity. This shift challenges the noise of daily price fluctuations, positioning ETH as a cornerstone of decentralized finance and blockchain innovation. As Ethereum continues to mature, the interplay of staking, burning, and institutional accumulation could drive significant value appreciation. With the network’s upgrade roadmap, including future sharding, the deflationary pressure may intensify, potentially pushing ETH prices higher. For now, the market watches closely as these supply dynamics unfold, with the latest whale activity serving as a powerful signal of confidence in Ethereum’s future.
