Ethereum network activity has surged in 2025, with daily transactions consistently exceeding 1.2 million, indicating strong user engagement despite price volatility. This trend is particularly notable as
prices fluctuated between $1,750 and $3,250 in June 2025, with the end-of-month price settling around $2,430. The network's resilience is evident as transaction volumes remained robust even during periods of price correction, reflecting a steady rate of network engagement. The surge in transaction growth correlates with increased usage of blockchain-based applications and smart contract executions. This heightened activity suggests that Ethereum maintains its utility even during corrective price periods, attracting more users and institutional activity. The network's fees surged by 130.4% this week, driven by rising institutional decentralized finance (DeFi) activity and smart contract executions. Higher fees typically indicate increased demand on the blockchain, particularly for executing contracts or transferring value.
Meanwhile, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a new digital identity model aimed at enhancing privacy and fair access. In a recent blog post, Buterin introduced the concept of "pluralistic identity" to address the risks associated with centrally constructed ID systems. He reviewed existing applications of zero-knowledge proof technology-based identity solutions, noting that while these systems can mask personal information, they also risk enforcing rigid single-identity systems. Buterin argued that privacy is undermined if users are forced into one verifiable identity, restricting their ability to maintain multiple accounts for different platforms or functions.
Buterin's proposal suggests decentralizing the identification process to minimize exposure to coercion and increase flexibility. His pluralistic identity model involves social-graph-based tools or a combination of providers, such as government records, social media, or decentralized networks. This approach aims to provide structure for individuals without formal IDs or stateless persons, promoting a more inclusive and privacy-focused digital identity system. By advocating for systems with no single authority, Buterin hopes to safeguard digital privacy while enabling fair participation in digital life.
