Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, in collaboration with developer Toni Wahrstätter, has presented EIP-7983, a proposal that introduces a dedicated gas limit of 16.77 million for individual transactions. This new limit is separate from the overall block gas limit and is intended to bolster the network's resilience against Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. By imposing a cap on transaction gas, the proposal seeks to address issues such as load imbalance, excessive state growth, and delays in block verification, which are frequently caused by high gas-consuming transactions.

EIP-7983 is also engineered to optimize the efficiency of zero-knowledge virtual machine (zkVM) operations and facilitate parallel transaction execution. These enhancements are expected to contribute to improved scalability and overall performance of the Ethereum network. As of now, the proposal is in the draft phase and is subject to further community review and technical validation before it can be implemented.
