Ethereum News Today: Tom Lee's BitMine Hits 1.15M ETH Treasury as ETH Rises 88% in a Month

Tom Lee, the chairman of Fundstrat and a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency market, is reportedly positioned to generate billions from a single trade involving a 10-year, 5% BMNR call option. Thomas Braziel, an FTX debt claim expert, estimated that this option could be worth between $300 million and $350 million [1]. The potential windfall is attributed to Lee’s strategic position in the Ethereum market, which has seen significant growth since his June 30 appointment as chairman of BitMine, when the price of ETH was approximately $2,500. As of now, ETH has surged to $4,700, marking an 88% increase within a month [1].

Under Lee’s leadership, BitMine has pursued an aggressive expansion strategy aimed at increasing its Ethereum holdings. The firm has announced plans to raise up to $20 billion to boost its treasury, which is already valued at $5 billion. This strategy, known as “The Alchemy of 5%,” aims to secure 5% of the total Ethereum supply, a milestone that could give BitMine significant influence over the market [2].

BitMine has already passed a major threshold by accumulating 1 million ETH, making it the first corporate entity to reach this level [6]. In the past week alone, the firm added 317,000 ETH to its holdings, bringing the total to approximately 1.15 million ETH [7]. This makes BitMine the largest corporate Ethereum treasury to date.

Lee’s approach has drawn comparisons to other high-profile investors such as Michael Saylor, who also advocates for long-term accumulation of digital assets. His strategy has also attracted attention from influential investors, including a U.S. Congress member who recently invested in BitMine Immersion stock [8]. This move has been interpreted as a sign of growing institutional confidence in the firm’s vision.

In addition to Ethereum, Lee has also commented on Bitcoin, suggesting that it may be difficult for the U.S. government to acquire a million BTC, despite rising institutional interest in the asset [1]. He and other analysts have forecasted that Bitcoin could reach $150,000 by the end of 2025, and potentially $250,000 by 2025 [4]. If Bitcoin achieves a market capitalization where its price reaches $150,000, Ethereum could theoretically rise above $8,600 based on historical trends where ETH’s market cap has reached 30–35% of Bitcoin’s [9]. However, such projections remain conditional and subject to macroeconomic and regulatory factors.

Lee’s strategy reflects a broader shift in the market, where major players are viewing digital assets as long-term investments rather than short-term speculative bets. His efforts continue to shape the narrative around institutional adoption and market confidence in both Bitcoin and Ethereum [2].
