Ethereum’s Q4 Fusaka upgrade is at risk of being delayed as developers increasingly focus their efforts on planning for the 2026 Glamsterdam upgrade, according to recent statements by
Foundation (EF) Co-Executive Director Tomasz Stańczak. In an update posted on X on Aug. 8, Stańczak emphasized the need for developers to refocus their attention on Fusaka, which is currently in the testnet phase and scheduled for implementation in Q4 2025. He warned that continued discussion of the longer-term Glamsterdam upgrade could detract from the critical progress needed to ensure Fusaka meets its timeline [1].Stańczak urged project coordinators to pause discussions on Glamsterdam, a major upgrade expected in early or mid-2026. He argued that Fusaka is already facing time-sensitive development challenges and that shifting conversations back to this immediate upgrade is essential for maintaining Ethereum’s broader roadmap [1]. “No amount of talking about Ethereum’s roadmap and vision matters if we cannot achieve coordination levels that consistently meet goals on schedule,” Stańczak stated [1].
The EF executive expressed optimism that the development teams would overcome the bottlenecks that have raised concerns about potential delays. He highlighted that talented engineers are already working to resolve these issues and that broad agreement on the importance of timelines is crucial to keeping the project on track [1].
Fusaka is designed to introduce several technical improvements via Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), including Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS), which aims to enhance data distribution. Other changes include adjustments to the transaction gas limit and refinements to blob parameters, all of which are expected to improve the network’s scalability and overall performance [1].
The push to finalize Fusaka follows growing pressure from the Ethereum community for faster implementation of upgrades. Many stakeholders view these changes as essential for maintaining Ethereum’s competitive edge in the rapidly evolving blockchain space. While Glamsterdam remains on the roadmap and is projected to arrive before the third quarter of 2026, Stańczak insists that the immediate priority must be ensuring the smooth and timely launch of Fusaka [1].
