BitMine
Technologies (BMNR), a Nasdaq-listed treasury firm, has increased its holdings significantly, acquiring an additional 150,000 ETH in recent weeks, according to a press release. The purchase brings the company’s total Ethereum holdings to 1,866,974 tokens, valued at approximately $8.1 billion at current prices. The firm also reported $635 million in cash reserves for further acquisitions, underscoring its aggressive accumulation strategy.BMNR is led by Tom Lee, co-founder and CIO of Fundstrat Capital, who has positioned the firm to control approximately 5% of Ethereum’s total supply. This would make BitMine the largest listed ETH treasury firm, as it trails only the bitcoin-focused Strategy in overall crypto holdings, with a $71 billion BTC stash. The firm’s strategic accumulation strategy is primarily focused on staking, with the aim of generating yield on its ETH reserves, a key differentiator from Bitcoin’s non-yielding nature.
Ethereum’s validator queue has also shown a significant shift in staking dynamics, with staking entry requests overtaking exits for the first time since July. As of September 4, the staking entry line reached 833,141 ETH (around $3.7 billion), surpassing the 819,757 ETH (roughly $3.6 billion) waiting for withdrawal. This trend, according to staking service provider Everstake, reflects increased network confidence and institutional demand for Ethereum as a staking asset.
The recent accumulation activity by BitMine and other institutional players has contributed to a notable rise in Ethereum’s price. As of September 2, Ethereum traded at approximately $4,385, marking a 20.1% increase over the past month and an 84% gain year-to-date, according to CoinMarketCap. This price surge has been partly attributed to growing institutional interest, including Ethereum-focused ETFs, which now hold $37.9 billion in assets under management, according to a recent CoinShares report.
The Ether Machine, another Ethereum-focused treasury initiative, also announced the addition of 150,000 ETH to its holdings, bringing its total to 500,000 tokens, valued at around $2.19 billion. This move is part of a broader strategy to become the first institutional public vehicle focused solely on Ethereum, leveraging its potential for yield generation and institutional-grade infrastructure solutions.
Despite the recent price gains, Ethereum faces technical resistance around the $4,500 level, with the coin recently breaching an ascending trendline support. Analysts remain cautious about potential short-term corrections, citing historical patterns of late-summer pullbacks. However, the long-term outlook remains bullish, supported by Ethereum’s transition to a proof-of-stake model and growing adoption in institutional finance.
