Ethereum Foundation Launches Silviculture Society for Enhanced Governance

Notable members include Matthew Green, a cryptography professor at Johns Hopkins University, and Lefteris Karapetsas, founder of the privacy-preserving tool Rotki. Some members have chosen to maintain anonymity, adopting handles like "Aleph," "dystopiabreaker," and "mashbean," reflecting a commitment to the foundational cypherpunk ethos of privacy and decentralization.

The Society's primary objective is to provide informal counsel to the Ethereum Foundation, preserving core tenets such as open source, privacy, security, and censorship resistance. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has noted that the Society represents an experimental shift towards enhancing community governance within the Ethereum ecosystem.
