Ethereum Foundation (EF) co-executive director Tomasz Stanczak has announced that Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, will shift his focus towards the extensive Layer 1 scaling roadmap. This decision comes as the Ethereum community continues to grapple with the challenges of transaction speed and efficiency, amidst growing competition from rival blockchains. Buterin's recent insights on community proposals related to privacy and zkVMs align with this strategic shift.

Stanczak's announcement, made via a recent post, highlights that Buterin will move away from daily coordination and crisis response to concentrate on research and innovation. This change in focus is part of a broader effort to steer the Ethereum network towards more scalable and efficient solutions. Stanczak emphasized that while Buterin's proposals will always carry significant weight, they are intended to spark conversations and encourage progress in difficult research areas. The community is encouraged to review and refine these proposals, which may lead to significant changes or even rejection. This approach aims to foster a culture of open dialogue and innovation within the Ethereum ecosystem.

The Ethereum Foundation is also encouraging developers to contribute to the roadmap and enhance the user experience. In recent months, many users have raised questions about the Foundation and the network's mechanisms, sparking further debates. Last week, Buterin highlighted key proposals to enhance Ethereum's privacy, including on-chain privacy, read privacy, and network-level anonymity. To achieve these goals, the network will need to implement privacy tools like Railgun into existing wallets, introducing a "shielded balance" option that eliminates the need for a separate privacy wallet. Buterin's proposal also involves a controversial "one address per application" model to remove public links and aid privacy. These proposals have sparked ongoing debates within the community.

Stanczak further revealed that the Ethereum Foundation will prioritize its near-term goals in the next two protocol upgrades. These upgrades, known as Pectra, Fusaka, and Glamsterdam, will focus on Layer 1 scaling, support for Layer 2 scaling, and significant user experience improvements, including interoperability. This strategic focus aims to address the growing competition and ensure that Ethereum remains at the forefront of blockchain technology. The Foundation's commitment to innovation and scalability is expected to drive further developments and improvements within the Ethereum ecosystem.
