AWS IoT Core Device Location and Amazon Sidewalk integration has been launched, allowing developers to retrieve location data from Sidewalk devices without the need for GPS modules. This simplifies the development experience for devices like smart home sensors and trackers powered by coin cell batteries. The service enables IoT device manufacturers and solution developers to build asset tracking and location monitoring solutions by sending BLE, Wi-Fi, or GNSS information to AWS IoT from Sidewalk-based devices. The confirmed location data can be sent to MQTT topics or AWS IoT rules and forwarded to other AWS services through AWS IoT Core. This simplifies the software development process and provides more options for selecting the best location source, improving product performance.
