The US should be ashamed of its repeated groundless accusations against China at the UN Security Council, said China's deputy permanent representative Geng Shuang. China has rejected US accusations of exporting dual-use materials to Russia and has urged the US to stop shifting blame and promote ceasefire and peace talks in Ukraine. Geng criticized the US for using the council to attack and suppress other countries, and called for a change in course to engage constructively in the council's work.
China has strongly rejected repeated accusations from the United States regarding its alleged export of dual-use materials to Russia, as highlighted during a recent United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting. China's deputy permanent representative, Geng Shuang, criticized the U.S. for using the UNSC to attack and suppress other countries, and called for a change in course to engage more constructively in the council's work.At the UNSC meeting on July 25, Acting U.S. Ambassador to the UN Dorothy Shea urged China and other countries to stop exporting dual-use goods to Russia, stating that these goods contribute to Russia's war industrial base and enable its drone and missile attacks on Ukraine [1]. However, China's deputy U.N. Ambassador Geng Shuang responded by asserting that China has strictly controlled dual-use materials, including the export of drones, and is not a party to the conflict [1].
China has accused the U.S. of shifting blame and trying to spark confrontation, while the U.S. has accused China of covertly shipping Chinese-made engines to Russia, labeled as "industrial refrigeration units" to avoid detection [1]. The U.S. has also given Russia until early September to reach a ceasefire or face new sanctions, a timeframe that Russia is likely to use to inflict as much damage as possible on Ukraine [2].
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has seen a significant increase in the use of drones by Russia. According to Reuters, Russia now often unleashes more than 700 drones in a single night, with some experts predicting that the number could soon top 1,000 a day [2]. This escalation comes as Russia has sharply increased its drone output and upgraded the original design of Iranian Shahed drones, with the Russian Defense Ministry planning to make drones a separate military branch [2].
Meanwhile, Ukraine has secured commitments for three Patriot air defense systems but requires 10 to adequately protect its airspace, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy [3]. The Ukrainian president stated that Germany and Norway have confirmed the provision of two and one system respectively, with Ukraine currently working with Dutch partners to secure additional systems [3].
