In response to declining stock prices and slowing demand for electric vehicles, Tesla's CEO Elon Musk has undertaken a reorganization of the company's operations in North America and Europe.
Reports on Wednesday indicate that Musk has appointed Omead Afshar to lead these regional operations. Aged 37, Afshar is regarded as a close confidant of Musk. He joined Tesla in 2017 and currently holds the position of vice president responsible for sales and manufacturing. Previously, he worked in the office of the CEO at Tesla. In 2022, while serving as the head of Tesla's Texas factory, Afshar was reportedly under internal review for allegedly procuring a scarce construction material for Musk's personal use.
According to the reports, Afshar, in his new role, will report directly to Musk. He has assumed several responsibilities previously managed by Tesla's senior vice president Xiaotong Zhu. Afshar has also contributed to Musk's other ventures, including SpaceX and the social media platform X, which Musk acquired in 2022.
