Elon Musk Calls for New Political Party Amid Trump Bill Criticism

Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and owner of the social platform X, has reignited his advocacy for the establishment of a new political party. This renewed call comes amidst his sharp criticism of President Trump’s megabill, which is currently under consideration by the Senate. Musk's primary concern is the bill's substantial spending, which he argues would increase the debt ceiling by a record five trillion dollars. He has described the current political landscape as a "one-party country" dominated by what he refers to as the "PORKY PIG PARTY," suggesting that a new political party is necessary to truly represent the people.

Musk's relationship with Trump has been contentious, with their close ties quickly deteriorating into a public clash earlier this month. Despite this, Musk has continued to push for a new political faction. He previously launched a poll on X asking users whether the country needed a new party. The results showed that 80% of users voted in favor of establishing a new political party. Musk has proposed naming this new party "The America Party" to represent the 80% in the middle.

Musk, who previously served as the head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, has argued that Trump’s ambitious tax and spending package undermines efforts to rein in spending. In a subsequent post, Musk called out House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris and Rep. Chip Roy, questioning how they could support a bill that increases the debt ceiling to such an extent.

The Senate’s version of the bill is projected to increase the deficit by nearly $3.3 trillion between 2025 and 2034, which is roughly $1 trillion more than the House-passed version. Senate Republicans are currently facing a marathon vote-a-rama, while the White House continues to push for the legislation to be passed and signed by the president.

Musk's call for a new political party has garnered attention, with former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and founder of the Forward Party, expressing strong interest in collaborating with Musk. This suggests that there may be growing support for a new political faction that aims to represent a broader range of voters and address the concerns of those who feel disenfranchised by the current two-party system.

Musk had initiated a voting campaign on social media on June 6th, asking, "Is now the time to create a new political party in the United States that truly represents the middle 80%?" The voting results showed that 5,630,775 users participated, with 80.4% of users choosing to support. Musk stated that if the "Bigger Sooner" bill is passed, a new American political party would be established the next day.
