Eastern European Hackers Steal $12M in ETH from "Whale God"

Last year, a significant cryptocurrency theft occurred, with 12,000 ETH stolen from a prominent investor known as "Whale God." The culprit behind this heist was not a North Korean hacker, as previously speculated, but rather the Eastern European hacker group, Inferno Drainer. This revelation was made by SlowMist Cosine, a blockchain security firm.

The theft took place on the Poly Network, a decentralized exchange platform. The hackers exploited a vulnerability in the platform to siphon off the ETH. The stolen funds were then laundered through a complex pattern that bore similarities to the tactics employed by North Korean hackers, making it challenging to recover the stolen assets.
