Dogecoin News Today: Regulators Fast-Track DOGE ETF Via 40 Act Workaround
A potential DogecoinDOGE-- (DOGE) exchange-traded fund (ETF) could launch in the United States as early as next week, following regulatory filings by ETF issuer REXREX-- Shares, as highlighted by Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. REX Shares is utilizing the 40 Act regulatory framework, a route previously used to launch its SolanaSOL-- staking ETF, to expedite the process and bypass the traditional, often delayed, SEC approval for spot crypto ETFs. This approach is described as a “regulatory end-around” by industry experts such as Nate Geraci, president of ETF Store. Unlike conventional ETFs, which must submit multiple regulatory forms to the SEC, 40 Act ETFs avoid prolonged delays, making them a faster and more viable option for market entry. REX Shares filed an effective prospectus for its Dogecoin ETF, warning investors of the token’s volatile nature and exposure to “unique and substantial risks.” Despite the volatility, DOGEDOGE-- has surged 116.67% over the past year according to CoinMarketCap, although it has recently declined from its 2024 high of $0.4672 to trade at $0.2129. REX Shares has also filed for an ETF tied to the TRUMPTRUMP-- token, which would invest in an offshore entity that holds the token, further diversifying its portfolio of meme-related exposure.
The anticipated launch of the DOGE ETF could have significant implications for the token’s price, as historical precedents suggest that ETF inflows can boost demand for underlying assets. For instance, the launch of REX-Osprey’s Solana (SOL) ETF earlier this year was followed by a 34% increase in SOL’s spot price. The DOGE ETF, ticker DOJE, is structured similarly to the SSK fund and is expected to list under the same ETF Opportunities Trust framework, which has already demonstrated success in attracting capital. The fund’s prospectus outlines its objective to track Dogecoin’s performance and includes provisions for using derivatives and a Cayman-based subsidiary to manage exposure. The timing of the ETF’s launch, with a September 9, 2025, effective date, supports the expectation of a near-term listing, as this date marks the regulatory threshold required before a trading date can be set. Given DOGE’s retail-driven nature and relatively smaller market capitalization compared to SOL, any ETF-related inflows could have a more pronounced effect on its price than seen in larger, more liquid assets.
Despite the growing institutional interest in Dogecoin, many investors are now turning to newer meme coins with potentially higher returns. One such token is Layer Brett (LBRETT), which is currently in its presale at $0.0053 per token. Built on EthereumETH-- Layer 2 technology, LBRETT offers faster transactions and lower fees, setting it apart from other meme coins like PEPE or Shiba InuSHIB-- that rely heavily on hype without substantial utility. The project also offers high staking rewards, with early adopters earning up to 1,020% annual percentage yield (APY), creating strong incentives for early participation. Unlike traditional meme coins, LBRETT combines meme-driven community engagement with real blockchain performance, making it an attractive option for investors seeking both speculative and functional value. The token’s presale has already attracted significant attention, and with a capped supply of 10 billion tokens, the project emphasizes scalability and fairness in its tokenomics.
The broader meme coin market is also seeing a shift in focus, with established names like XRPXRP-- and CardanoADA-- (ADA) struggling to maintain momentum. XRP, despite its institutional appeal, remains below its 2018 all-time high of $3.84, while ADAADA-- has yet to recover its 2021 peak of $3.10. Both coins, while fundamentally strong, face limitations in growth potential due to their large market caps, making exponential returns unlikely. In contrast, newer projects like Layer Brett are attracting attention for their innovative structures and potential for rapid appreciation. With a current market cap significantly lower than that of DOGE, LBRETT offers greater room for growth and is increasingly seen as a viable alternative by traders looking to capitalize on the next meme coin breakout. The growing adoption of meme coins is also being supported by broader crypto market trends, with the United States climbing to second place in Chainalysis’ 2025 Global Adoption Index. Institutional infrastructure, including the launch of crypto ETFs, has contributed to this rise, creating a more favorable environment for speculative assets.
As the Dogecoin ETF approaches its potential launch, the market is also watching closely for signs of regulatory developments and investor sentiment shifts. While DOGE continues to hold cultural relevance and institutional interest, the broader meme coin ecosystem is evolving rapidly, with new projects like Layer Brett, DeepSnitch AI, and others vying for attention. These projects are leveraging a combination of viral appeal, blockchain utility, and high-yield incentives to attract early adopters. In this environment, the likelihood of Dogecoin reaching $1 appears dim, particularly as newer tokens offer potentially higher returns. Investors are increasingly favoring projects that provide both speculative and functional value, a trend that could further divert capital away from established meme coins. The DOJE ETF, while a significant development for institutional exposure to DOGE, may not be enough to drive the token to the $1 price level without sustained retail demand and broader market conditions supporting such a move.
