Disney's Bold Leap: Embracing AI and Mixed Reality to Transform Entertainment Experience

Disney, the renowned media conglomerate, is forging ahead with its technological innovation by establishing a new team tasked with overseeing the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and mixed reality (MR). This initiative marks a strategic move aimed at exploring the potential of these technologies across Disney's diverse business portfolios, which include films, television, and theme parks.
Jamie Voris, previously the Chief Technology Officer at Disney's film studio, has been appointed to lead the newly formed "Office of Technology Enablement." Voris will now report to Alan Bergman, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment. Eddie Drake is set to succeed Voris as the studio's Chief Technology Officer.
In an internal communication, Bergman articulated the rapid advancement of AI and extended reality (XR) technologies, acknowledging their potential to significantly influence consumer experiences, creative projects, and business operations. Bergman emphasized that Disney must seize this exciting opportunity while prudently managing the associated risks, underscoring the company's commitment to innovative progress.
The initiative highlights Disney's proactive stance towards incorporating cutting-edge technology into its operations. Despite certain industry resistance, notably from Hollywood writers and actors concerned about AI's implications, Disney continues to press forward with its strategic emphasis on AI exploration and implementation across its vast entertainment empire.
