Pi Network is driving innovation through its 2025 Hackathon, a pivotal event aimed at expanding the utility of its cryptocurrency ecosystem. The initiative, launched following the Open Network's activation, invites developers to create applications that integrate Pi tokens into real-world use cases, with a total prize pool of 160,000 Pi tokens[1]. The hackathon emphasizes practical applications, encouraging participants to build tools that enhance Pi's accessibility and functionality for both existing and new users.
The event, open to global developers, has already seen over 100 applications submitted as of mid-September 2025[2]. A midpoint showcase highlighted several projects, including , a QR code-based loyalty rewards platform enabling users to redeem goods and services using Pi, and , an e-commerce app for fresh produce purchases and wellness content sharing. Other notable entries include , a gaming platform leveraging Pi for in-game transactions, and , a content creation tool allowing creators to monetize short-form videos with Pi tips[2]. These projects underscore the hackathon's focus on diverse sectors such as retail, health, entertainment, and artificial intelligence.

Submissions must adhere to Pi's Mainnet Listing Guidelines, requiring developers to register apps via the Developer Portal and submit demo videos[1]. The final evaluation criteria prioritize alignment with community needs, technical innovation, and long-term utility on the Pi blockchain. A key requirement is PiNet integration, ensuring applications function within the network's infrastructure. Teams must also complete KYC verification to be eligible for prizes[1].
The hackathon reflects broader momentum in Pi's ecosystem development. Following the Pi2Day 2025 event in June, which saw over 2.6 million users complete ecosystem challenges[2], the network has continued to expand its app layer. Over 70 Pi-native applications are now live, spanning payments, gaming, and productivity tools. The hackathon builds on this growth, aiming to solidify Pi's position as a platform for practical blockchain solutions.
With final submissions due by October 15, 2025[1], the event represents a critical opportunity for developers to contribute to Pi's evolution. The winning projects, which will be judged based on community impact and technical execution, could further integrate Pi into everyday use cases, reinforcing the network's vision of accessible, utility-driven cryptocurrency adoption.
