Deutsche Telekom AG has landed a new IT contract from Toll Collect, a unit of the German Federal Highway Research Institute. The contract is for the provision of IT services, including the maintenance and operation of the toll collection system in Germany. The deal is reportedly worth millions of euros and is expected to run for several years.

Deutsche Telekom AG has secured a significant IT contract from Toll Collect, a unit of the German Federal Highway Research Institute. The contract, which is worth a three-digit million figure in euros, involves the provision of IT services for the maintenance and operation of the truck toll collection system in Germany. The agreement has a term of eight years with an option to extend for an additional four years [1].

T-Systems, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, has been managing the IT landscape for Toll Collect since 2005. The latest contract sees T-Systems moving the applications to a private cloud at data center locations in Magdeburg and Biere. This relocation aims to enhance data security and operational efficiency. Ferri Abolhassan, CEO of T-Systems and a member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom AG, commented on the contract, stating, "We have been supporting Toll Collect as an IT partner for two decades and contribute reliably to operational stability, data security, and efficiency. Now we are continuing this success story and moving the applications to a sovereign private cloud that we are rebuilding for Toll Collect. This enables us to offer maximum protection for infrastructure and data" [1].

Christoph Ahrendt, a member of the management board and responsible for the toll business at T-Systems, highlighted the company's leadership in the European toll system market. He noted, "With our satellite-based, modular toll platform, we are the leader in Europe. We have been operating the truck toll system in Belgium since 2016. And just in March, together with the Grenoble-based company GEA, we were awarded the contract to equip and operate a truck toll system on selected roads in Alsace. The new contract with Toll Collect underscores our growing importance in this segment" [1].

This contract is a significant win for Deutsche Telekom and T-Systems, demonstrating their continued ability to secure major IT contracts in the infrastructure and transportation sectors. The company's focus on data security and operational efficiency is likely to be a key factor in winning such contracts.
