Delta Air Lines is enhancing the travel experience for its customers with the introduction of new technologies and strategic collaborations. These developments aim to streamline processes, especially for passengers traveling internationally and connecting through major hubs like Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).
One of the most significant innovations is the International Remote Baggage Screening (IRBS) system, launched through a partnership between
, Korean Air, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This system enables U.S. baggage screening to be completed remotely in Seoul for flights heading to Atlanta, allowing passengers to bypass the traditional baggage recheck and proceed directly to connecting flights. The initiative is expected to reduce connection times by approximately 20 minutes, alleviating one of the most stressful aspects of international travel. The remote baggage screening involves transmitting X-ray images of luggage from Incheon International Airport (ICN) in South Korea to U.S. authorities, who review the images before the aircraft's arrival. This process circumvents the need for passengers to collect and recheck their bags at ATL, providing a smoother connection. This advancement applies not only to direct ICN-ATL passengers but also to those traveling from other locations and transitioning through Incheon.
Passengers on
flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to Atlanta have already seen benefits from similar streamlined security protocols, which remove redundant security checks and minimize customs delays. Specifically, Delta customers enrolled in Global Entry or using the Mobile Passport Control app can save significant time. These enhancements are set to extend to all LHR to ATL flights in the upcoming weeks, further reducing wait times and refining the passenger experience. Delta plans to expand these services to other international routes, aiming to support efficient global travel. In alignment with these technological advancements, Delta is rolling out Touchless ID—formerly known as Delta Digital ID—across its hubs. This system enables eligible SkyMiles members to move through security and bag drop lines without presenting a physical photo ID, using facial recognition technology instead. The TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, which requires Delta app registration and passport information stored in the user's profile, accelerates customer processing by reducing the average security transaction time significantly.
Delta passengers can also benefit from expedited baggage drop-off, exclusively available for app users. The streamlined "App Bag Drop" service is accessible in key airports, including Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, and Seattle, simplifying the initial travel stages and offering more leisure time before departure.
These initiatives reflect Delta's ongoing commitment to integrating advanced technology and fostering global partnerships to enhance passenger convenience. With plans to further develop and deploy these systems, Delta aims to establish new standards in international travel, reducing wait times and improving the overall efficiency of transit through major airport hubs.
