Dell (DELL.US) is reducing its sales team to focus on AI products, part of a sales team reorganization that includes a new team focused on AI products and services.

"We are getting more focused," said Bill Scannell and John Byrne, senior sales team leaders, in a memo to Dell employees on Monday, "We are streamlining management and adjusting our investment priorities."

Along with the team focused on AI products, executives said the company will change the way it operates its data center sales.

A spokesperson declined to comment on how many positions would be affected. "Through the reorganization of our sales teams and a series of actions, we are becoming a more focused company," the spokesperson said.

The exact number of layoffs has not been disclosed, but the Texas-based computer company cut about 5% of its global workforce last year.

According to Layoffs.fyi, tech companies have laid off 124,517 people so far this year. The total number of layoffs in the industry in 2023 was 264,220.
