"DeepSeek Scam: China Warns Public Amid Widespread Crypto Fraud"
China's authorities have issued a stern warning to the public regarding a widespread cryptocurrency scam involving the "DeepSeek blockchain project." The scammers, posing as legitimate investors, have managed to dupe numerous individuals into parting with their funds, according to official sources.
The scam involves the circulation of a fake digital currency, DeepSeekCoin, within chat groups. This has resulted in significant financial losses for many people. In addition, the scammers have created fake DeepSeek websites, designed to mimic the genuine platform, in an attempt to trick unsuspecting investors into joining their projects.
Cybersecurity experts in China have also discovered a malicious DeepSeek mobile app, designed to appear as a fake version of the official program. The app, once installed, prompts users to click on an "update" button, which in turn activates a secret data collection tool. This tool allows the app to access private data and monitor messages, while also blocking deletion attempts. Security experts have identified multiple imitated programs using DeepSeek's brand to distribute malicious software.
To protect themselves, authorities advise the public to obtain DeepSeek exclusively from the official website or official app stores. If an app appears to be malfunctioning or requests unusual permissions, users should remove it immediately and change their account passwords. In cases where the app refuses to uninstall, users should create data backups before seeking professional help.
The scammers behind the DeepSeek scheme have been luring victims with promises of earning thousands of yuan monthly through their platform. They have sold luxury training packages for nearly 40 yuan, despite the fact that most training materials are freely available online. After initial purchases of 299 or 399 yuan, victims are pressured to buy more training programs.
In light of these developments, authorities strongly advise the public to exercise caution when considering online investment opportunities. They warn against joining groups that promote unrealistic financial rewards and urge people to stay away from uncertain links. The best way to avoid such scams is to remain vigilant, as scammers continually adapt their tactics.
