DVA--
The attack was carried out by the Interlock ransomware group, which gained unauthorized access to DaVita's servers in April. The group claimed to have stolen data from DaVita and later posted a portion of the leaked information. DaVita was able to obtain the information in June, which included names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and various clinical and insurance data from its dialysis labs database.
The attack has had significant financial implications for DaVita. The company incurred approximately $13.5 million in expenses during the second quarter due to the incident, including a $1 million increase in patient care costs and $12.5 million in general and administrative expenses [1]. The cyberattack also negatively impacted DaVita's billing, revenue collection, and patient census, which the provider expects will affect treatment revenue and volumes for the full year.
Despite the financial impact, shares of DaVita Inc. rallied 1.27% to $137.76 on July 1, 2025, snapping a two-day losing streak. However, the stock underperformed compared to some of its competitors, with UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH) rising 2.51% to $309.87, Icon PLC (ICLR) rising 1.65% to $177.94, and Quest Diagnostics Inc. (DGX) rising 1.36% to $181.64 [2].
The ransomware attack comes as a growing concern for the healthcare sector, with cybersecurity authorities and the federal government warning about the increasing threat of ransomware attacks targeting critical infrastructure and businesses [1].
