David Fischer Joins 01 Advisors to Scale Tech Startups

David Fischer, a partner at 01 Advisors, brings a wealth of experience from his tenure as a vice president of sales at Google and chief revenue officer at Facebook. His journey into the tech sector began with a stint at the Treasury Department, where he met Sheryl Sandberg, who would later become his boss at both Google and Facebook. Fischer's entry into Silicon Valley coincided with a transformative period for the tech sector, joining Google in 2002 right after it launched AdWords and was beginning to bring in revenue. He spent eight years at the search giant before transitioning to Facebook, where he played a pivotal role in scaling the company's revenue from $750 million to over $100 billion.
Fischer's experience at Google and Facebook provided him with invaluable insights into the process of scaling a company from product-market fit to market domination. This expertise has made him a valuable asset to 01 Advisors, where he joined full-time for the firm's third fund, a $395 million vehicle launched in October 2023. 01 Advisors, founded by former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo and Adam Bain, takes a unique approach to venture capital, focusing on Series B investments of about $15 million. This stage is crucial for companies that have a viable product but need guidance on how to sell it effectively.
01 Advisors helps founders navigate key challenges, such as transitioning from founder-led sales to a real sales operation, building out the executive team, and sizing up the competitive landscape. Fischer emphasizes the importance of providing counsel and support to founders, who often face solitary and challenging journeys. The firm's portfolio includes a variety of verticals, with a particular focus on companies that can quantify the effectiveness of their marketing, such as Haus, a San Francisco-based company founded by a former Google employee.
Despite the rapid growth and innovation in the tech sector, Fischer acknowledges the challenges posed by the rise of AI. He notes that while revenue timeframes may be accelerated, the competition remains fierce, and only a few winners will emerge in each category. Fischer's approach to investing is characterized by a deep conviction in the potential of the companies he supports, ensuring that they have the tools and guidance needed to succeed in a highly competitive market.
