DAT Freight & Analytics has acquired the Convoy Platform from Flexport, enhancing its digital freight-matching technology portfolio. The Convoy Platform allows freight brokers to automate freight transactions and will be integrated into DAT One, offering improved automated and hands-on freight-matching options. The acquisition brings in experienced professionals and advanced technology, supporting significant value creation for DAT.

DAT Freight & Analytics (DAT) has acquired the Convoy Platform from Flexport, enhancing its digital freight-matching technology portfolio. The acquisition will allow DAT to offer freight brokers a powerful tool for automating freight transactions, which will be integrated into DAT One, the company's flagship subscription-based load board. The Convoy Platform, which provides freight brokers with automated transaction capabilities and connects them with trusted trucking companies, will complement DAT One's existing services.

The Convoy Platform was initially acquired by Flexport in October 2023 and relaunched as a neutral digital freight execution layer in April 2024. Over the past 18 months, Flexport has significantly improved the platform's core technology, reengaged the market, and increased its value. Flexport's decision to sell the Convoy Platform comes as the company focuses on its core business of helping customers move freight around the world [1].

The acquisition of the Convoy Platform by DAT is a strategic move that demonstrates the company's commitment to enhancing network value for its customers. DAT President and CEO Jeff Clementz stated, "The acquisition of Convoy demonstrates DAT’s ongoing commitment to enhancing network value for our customers. Together, we will give customers a better, broader freight-matching network, the ability to manage more loads and capture incrementally more business, and ultimately more choice" [2].

The Convoy Platform brings several key benefits to DAT, including advanced fraud prevention technology, an easy-to-use mobile experience, and fast, reliable payments. DAT's acquisition of the Convoy Platform will also integrate the platform's experienced professionals into its executive leadership team, led by Bill Driegert. The integration of these technologies and professionals will support significant value creation for DAT and its customers [2].

Flexport's Ryan Petersen noted, "We invested in the Convoy Platform because we saw its potential. In just 18 months, we improved the core technology platform, reengaged the market, and significantly increased its value. Importantly, we demonstrated a strong product-market fit by decoupling the platform from a brokerage" [2].

DAT will ultimately integrate the Convoy Platform into its DAT One product, allowing brokers to seamlessly access both automated and hands-on freight-matching options. Carriers will also benefit from a faster, easier way to find quality loads from trusted brokers, supported by DAT's scale and reach.
