CZ Unveils Giggle Academy for Global Education

Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, a prominent figure in the crypto industry and co-founder of Binance, recently unveiled an ambitious global education initiative during his speech at the Token2049 conference in Dubai. Zhao introduced Giggle Academy, a free online education platform designed to reach hundreds of millions of students worldwide. The platform combines gamified learning with generative AI to offer K–12 and entrepreneurial education, reflecting Zhao’s shift towards philanthropic and technological innovation.

Zhao also expressed concerns over Europe’s slow adoption of digital currencies. He highlighted the proactive approach of countries like the United Arab Emirates and Bhutan, contrasting it with Europe’s lack of serious crypto reserve strategies. Zhao noted that while the European Union has made strides in regulatory oversight with the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, regulation alone is not enough. He argued that Europe’s failure to engage in discussions around state-backed crypto reserves and blockchain-driven innovation leaves it behind in the global race for digital finance leadership.

Montenegro was cited as a rare exception in Europe, with its forward-thinking leadership and active dialogue with crypto firms. Zhao praised Dubai and the United Arab Emirates for their pro-business stance, clear regulatory structures, and innovation-friendly governance. He also mentioned Bhutan as another leader in the space, noting its quiet efforts to build reserves of Bitcoin and Ether as part of its sovereign investment strategy.

Zhao’s appearance in Dubai marked one of his most high-profile public statements since his resignation from Binance in November 2023. Despite stepping back from the executive spotlight, Zhao remains influential in shaping the dialogue around global crypto adoption and policy. The Token2049 conference continues to serve as a focal point for crypto innovation, bringing together top executives, policymakers, and thought leaders.

In addition to his educational initiative, Zhao unveiled Giggle Academy, an online platform aimed at delivering free, gamified learning to as many as a billion children worldwide. The platform offers a free K-12 curriculum through a mobile app, with an emphasis on making education as captivating as mobile gaming. Giggle Academy plans to expand to cover non-traditional subjects such as entrepreneurship, finance, sales, legal fundamentals, blockchain, and artificial intelligence.

Zhao’s remarks in Dubai highlighted the growing reliance on generative AI in education. Giggle Academy uses AI tools to create course materials, customize learning paths, and generate interactive narratives for students. This AI-driven approach positions Giggle at the forefront of an expanding educational movement, aligning with broader trends in using technology to democratize access to quality education.
