CST Utilities buys Daystar Directional Drilling
CST Utilities, an Ohio-based infrastructure service company, has announced the acquisition of Indiana-based underground drilling firm Daystar Directional Drilling. The deal, effective July 15, 2025, will see Daystar operating as Daystar Directional Drilling under the CST family umbrella. This strategic move marks a significant expansion of CST’s Midwest footprint and service offerings [1].The acquisition aims to reinforce CST’s commitment to partnering with high-quality, client-focused utility service providers throughout the Midwest. By merging the best practices of both CST and Daystar, the combined entity aims to become a leading underground utility services provider in the region [2].
Steven Besse, President, and Chief Executive Officer of CST Utilities, expressed his pleasure with the acquisition. "We are very pleased to be joining forces with the team at Daystar," he said. "The team and focus on client satisfaction that Jerry Watson III and his family have built into the culture of Daystar will be a perfect fit for CST’s customer-first approach to business." Jerry Watson III, President of Daystar Directional Drilling, also shared his excitement about the merger. "I am excited to see Daystar merge with CST. This will provide our employees and customers with a stronger team that will benefit all," he added [1].
Daystar Directional Drilling, based in Noblesville, IN, has been serving central Indiana since 2002, providing underground utility services with a specialty in Horizontal Directional Drilling. Founder Jerry Watson III will remain with the company as the leader of the Indiana operation and maintain an ownership stake in the combined companies [2].
CST Utilities, established over 50 years ago, provides a range of excavation, underground, and maintenance services to public utilities, telecom providers, and other businesses. With this acquisition, CST seeks to enhance its service offerings and strengthen its presence in the Midwest [1].
