CS Disco's Aug. 5 Earnings: 13% Growth, but Is Profitability Finally Real or Just More Spending?

What the Aug. 5 results actually showed
DISCO's Aug. 5 update presented a mixed picture: growth is holding up, but profitability is still ahead rather than here. After the Aug. 5 results and 8:30 a.m. ET call, the central investor question was whether DISCO is becoming more embedded in the legal workflow or simply spending more aggressively to stay competitive.
At first glance, the quarter looked healthier. Total revenue grew 13% to $43.1 million, and GAAP diluted net loss per share improved to $0.13 from $0.18. But the operating story was less clean. Adjusted EBITDA worsened to a $3.4 million loss from a $2.7 million loss, and research and development expenses increased to 31% of revenue. That is the core divide: product investment can support a broader workflow strategy, but it also delays cleaner profitability.
Why the timeline still points to later this year
DISCO's near-term setup is more about timing than immediate financial stress. Software revenue reached $36.8 million, and the company reiterated full-year guidance of $172 million to $179 million in total revenue and $147.5 million to $152.5 million in software revenue. Management also maintained its target of adjusted EBITDA positivity in Q4 2026.
That leaves roughly one more quarter to close the gap. Based on current guidance, that implies adjusted EBITDA still needs to improve meaningfully before the year ends. The key near-term test is whether DISCO can narrow losses using the guidance already provided, rather than waiting for new catalysts.

What not to count on yet: the unified litigation solution
One important guardrail is the unified litigation solution. It has received positive early feedback from pilot customers, but there is no firm pricing or monetization plan and revenue from it is not expected in 2026. So while the product development is noteworthy, it should not be folded into 2026 revenue expectations.
For now, the call is straightforward: DISCO is growing, but investors still need proof that that growth can convert into sustained profitability.
