Crypto's Meme Coin Craze: Bullish Long-Term, Bearish Short-Term
The crypto market has witnessed a surge in speculative trading in recent weeks, with a strong and favorable market sentiment driving the latest meme coin craze. However, a report by BCA Research on Monday, February 10th, suggests that the short-term market is becoming bearish, despite the long-term investments remaining rewarding.
Bitcoin, for instance, has maintained its trend for 2023 and 2024, with BCA Research predicting that it could surpass $200,000. The speculative prowess in the crypto market is expected to play a critical role in achieving this milestone. In line with this projection, Bitcoin has been gradually gaining momentum and inching higher from its latest low of $91,000, attracting institutional investors such as MicroStrategy, which purchased 7,633 BTC for $742 million.
Despite the optimism, traders are uncertain about the right time to invest, with some market analysts warning that the popularity of meme coins, retail investment inflows, and Bitcoin ETFs could be a product of excess optimism. The Liquidity Trap, an exclusive coin designed to challenge the market's absurd and random treatment, has also faced a significant drop in its market cap, from $54 to $28 in just one day, highlighting the volatility and risks associated with speculative trading.
Experts like Correa and Sakhbiev caution against spurring excessive optimism, emphasizing the importance of understanding the metrics and niches of coins before investing. BCA Research also predicts that institutional investors will purchase a significant portion of Bitcoin when the price drops to as low as $75,000, allowing investors to understand the true potential of a coin without speculation.
The crypto market's speculative nature has been further fueled by political events, such as the potential election of Donald Trump as president, which could lead to a national Bitcoin stockpile and a crypto rally surpassing $100,000.
