Crypto Card Spending Hits Record $759 Million
On August 9, 2026, ATH recorded a 0.73% increase within a 24-hour period, reaching a price of $0.00413. Over the preceding seven days, the asset appreciated by 5.09%, while monthly performance showed a 7.55% rise. Conversely, the asset has experienced a significant decline of 52.09% over the last year. This price movement coincides with broader developments in the cryptocurrency payment sector, specifically regarding stablecoin adoption in everyday transactions.
Record-Breaking Crypto Card Expenditure
The cryptocurrency payment landscape demonstrated substantial growth in July 2026, with total card spending reaching a record $759 million. This figure represents a significant milestone, marking the highest level captured by Paymentscan since tracking began in October 2023. The July volume was approximately 2.5 times higher than the $306 million recorded in July 2025, indicating rapid expansion in the use of blockchain-linked balances for routine transactions.

Transaction volume also increased, with nearly 9 million crypto card purchases completed in July, compared to 5.2 million in the previous year. The average transaction size stood at approximately $86, suggesting that activity was distributed across smaller, everyday purchases rather than being concentrated solely in large-value transfers. This pattern aligns stablecoin spending more closely with standard commerce.
Dominance of Digital Dollars and Network Distribution
The composition of spending shifted heavily toward dollar-backed stablecoins. USDCUSDC-- accounted for 58% of July’s crypto card spending, while USDT contributed 26%, collectively representing 84% of tracked volumes. In contrast, euro-backed assets like EURe, which held an 88% share in early 2024, fell to approximately 2% by July 2026. This shift highlights the growing dominance of digital dollars within the sector.
RedotPay remained the largest individual program, generating $395.1 million in volume, followed by EtherFi at $100.3 million and KAST at $89.6 million. These three programs together accounted for about 77% of the total tracked spending. The underlying blockchain networks also diversified; while GnosisGNO-- once dominated, its share dropped to 2%. By July 2026, Optimism led with 29% of spending, while SolanaSOL-- and Base each represented approximately 19%.
Institutional Integration and Market Context
Major financial institutions continue to integrate these technologies. Visa reported $5.2 billion in stablecoin-linked card volume during 2025, a 319% year-over-year increase. The company supports over 130 stablecoin-linked programs across more than 50 countries and expects the number of supported programs to double in 2026. Partnerships such as the one with Stripe-owned Bridge aim to expand stablecoin-linked card availability to more than 100 countries by the end of the year.
Despite this rapid expansion, stablecoin-linked cards remain a small fraction of global payments. Visa processed approximately $14.2 trillion in total payment volume in 2025, meaning stablecoin-linked activity accounted for only about 0.04% of that total. Nevertheless, the record spending levels indicate that blockchain-funded cards are becoming a measurable component of everyday payment activity.
