U.S. court denies Musk's request to halt OpenAI's transformation.
Elon Musk failed to meet the "high bar" evidence requirements to obtain a preliminary injunction to stop ChatGPT maker OpenAI from converting from a nonprofit to a for-profit entity.
On March 4, a federal court in the United States denied Musk's earlier request for a preliminary injunction to stop ChatGPT maker OpenAI from converting to a for-profit company. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez rogers in Oakland, California said Musk failed to meet the "high bar" evidence requirements to obtain a preliminary injunction to stop ChatGPT maker OpenAI from converting from a nonprofit to a for-profit entity.
OpenAI has been pushing for the conversion, saying it is a key step to ensure the funding needed to develop the best artificial intelligence models. Musk sued OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman last year, alleging OpenAI originally invited Musk to fund a nonprofit AI research organization dedicated to the betterment of humanity but now focuses on profit.
