It's a growth story with a hard dependency on execution and financing conditions staying favorable simultaneously. The UBS forecast of 6% hyperscaler capex growth by 2028 doesn't support that dependency forever. The transition from 76% growth to 25% to 6% is the moment when leverage stops being free and starts being expensive.

The long-term bull case for CoreWeave — becoming the essential GPU cloud layer between NVIDIA and the AI developer ecosystem — remains intact. The near-term return curve, however, is heavily back-loaded and front-loaded with risk. The company is still unprofitable on a GAAP basis, deeply leveraged, and facing competitive pressure from its largest customers.

In my opinion, this is a position that belongs on the sidelines until the operating model proves it can generate positive free cash flow at scale — or until the stock drops to a level where the asymmetric payoff compensates for the leverage risk. At $89.51, with 52% of the peak already lost, the market is pricing in some of those concerns. But it's not pricing in enough.

What would change my thesis: If CoreWeave demonstrates that free cash flow margins are improving sequentially while maintaining triple-digit revenue growth, the leverage starts looking like an advantage rather than a liability. If, alternatively, capex guidance comes in above the high end of the range while backlog conversion slows, the debt burden becomes a structural ceiling on returns. Either way, the August 11 call is the inflection point.

The market is not shifting away from AI infrastructure. It's shifting from "growth at any cost" to "growth that can be funded." CoreWeave needs to prove it belongs in the second category before I'd allocate meaningful capital at these levels.
